New Product Announcement: Sensoria® Mat – Wheelchair Wellness Coach

Pressure injuries are one of the most frequent secondary complications in individuals with SCI. These injuries limit independence and reduce quality of life. Regular performance of pressure relief activities (i.e., leans and liftoffs) is a key component of preventing pressure injury development: these activities offload the skin and allow blood perfusion. However, patient adherence to pressure relief recommendations is low and new approaches to help individuals with SCI develop positive pressure relief activity behaviors are needed. The Southern California Spinal Cord Injury Model System have been collaborating with a Redmond, WA start-up Sensoria Health Inc. on the creation and development of the first sensor-infused cushion designed to improve the health of wheelchair users. The product is hand-made and designed for maximum comfort with memory foam to reduce pressure and gel on top to better control and reduce temperature. The dedicated mobile application reminds you when it is time to perform your exercises, tracks your progress and monitors your goals while providing behavioral feedback. The fully functional Sensoria®️ Mat and Sensoria®️ Mat Mobile App prototype are currently being tested at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Los Angeles. Sensoria Health is planning to launch via Kickstarter. You can sign up and receive one at a generous discount at www.sensoriamat.com.

Our current portfolio solutions include:

(1) Motus Smart Powered by Sensoria is the world’s first smart diabetic footwear. The intelligent cam boot monitors Diabetic Foot Ulceration patient’s rehabilitation to the clinician’s prescribed stabilization and mechanical offloading protocol to reduce risk of amputation. Motus is compliant to the IWGDF guidelines and was the most referenced product in the latest offloading clinical gold standard guidelines.

(2) Sensoria Smart Knee Brace is an easy-to-use, comfortable knee brace that has smart sensors above and below the knee to collect and report accurate movement data, including range of motion of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty and/or ACL reconstructive surgery. The dedicated mobile application provides patients with their daily exercise plan including proper technique demonstrations and real-time feedback. The clinician dashboard provides adherence and compliance information. It also tracks the time the clinician spends on each patient per month to facilitate billing for remote patient monitoring. It has been clinically tested by Cleveland Clinic.

(3) Sensoria smart sock v2.0 & Sensoria Core: They are infused with proprietary 100% textile sensors that are paired with a Bluetooth Smart detachable Core that not only delivers superior accuracy in step counting, speed, calories, altitude and distance tracking, but goes well beyond that to track cadence, foot landing technique and the impact score generated as you walk and run. They are currently being used in several clinical scenarios involving gait monitoring, balance, fall detection and prevention. Sensoria smart sock v3.0 with haptic feedback motor is currently being tested by NeuRA as part of the Michael J. Fox Foundation grant we received for Parkinson’ Disease research.

(4) Sensoria Developer Kit (SDK) includes proprietary and customizable textile sensors, microelectronics, mobile data collection and visualization software and the Sensoria cloud infrastructure API’s built on Microsoft Azure. The Sensoria Developer Kit provides the hardware, API libraries and developer tools necessary to build, test and debug “Internet of Me” solutions based on the Sensoria technology. The Sensoria Developer Kit enables developers, researchers and smart garment OEMs to rapidly design, develop and deploy their own range of smart garments – reducing complexity, R&D costs and time-to-market. The SDK provides the necessary abstraction layer between garments, hardware and apps.
