September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

There are approximately 200,000 people living with spinal cord injuries (SCI) in the United States.

Every 48 seconds in our country, a person becomes paralyzed. A majority of injuries occur from motor vehicle accidents, falls, work-related accidents, and sports injuries.

NSCIA, the membership division of United Spinal Association, is committed to connecting people living with SCI to active-lifestyle information, peer support and advocacy that empower them to achieve their highest potential in all facets of life. We are a lifeline for many individuals that are focused on regaining their independence and improving their quality of life. And we extend our support to those most important in their lives–– their family members and caregivers.

You can help us raise SCI awareness by spreading the word about the benefits of joining NSCIA and supporting our mission.

NSCIA’sSpinal Cord Central online resource center provides access to an extensive collection of knowledge books on SCI-related topics, as well as personal assistance from staff who field inquiries through our Help Desk.

Our membership magazine Life in Action is filled with the latest news and the most helpful resources, tips and tricks from the SCI/D community.

Our Events Calendar keeps people informed on the latest opportunities to attend seminars and trainings, partake in research initiatives or discover recreational or lifestyle-enhancing events.

NSCIA also has over 60 chapters and support groups operating throughout the country that offer a variety of activities for people with SCI to get involved in their communities and meet new friends.

As part of the United Spinal Association family, we believe that despite living with SCI, a full, productive, and rewarding life is within the reach of anyone with the strength to believe it and the courage to make it happen.
