SCI Hall of Fame Voting Deadline Extended to April 15
Voting for the current class of nominees into the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Hall of Fame has been extended through 5 p.m. Eastern Time, April 15. NSCIA members will choose the Hall of Fame Inductees in each of 17 categories through online voting. Formed by National Spinal Cord Injury Association (NSCIA) in 2005, the SCI Hall of Fame celebrates and honors individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to quality of life and advancements toward a better future for all individuals with spinal cord injury. While you must be an NSCIA member to vote, individual membership is free and open to anyone with an interest in the SCI/D community. Click here to vote.
Nominations were accepted at the end of 2009 in 17 categories including Assistive Technology, Benefactor, Corporate Executive, Disability Activist, Disability Educator, Entertainment, Entrepreneur, Government Executive, Grassroots Organizer, Legislative, Media, Research in Basic Science, Research in Quality of Life, Sports, Military, International and Direct Provider.
To date, nearly 60 individuals and organizations have been inducted into the SCI Hall of Fame, representing backgrounds as diverse as athletics, government, modeling, science, journalism, medicine and more.
NSCIA has hosted the SCI Hall of Fame gala and induction ceremonies at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and at the Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans, LA. Details for honoring the current class of inductees will be announced in early spring of 2010.
In addition to the SCI Hall of Fame categories, members can vote for the NSCIA Emerging Leader Award for exceptional leadership qualities in a local or regional capacity toward the improvement of opportunities or quality of life for persons living with SCI. This award was introduced in 2006 and has been presented to Cody Unser, founder of the Cody Unser First Step Foundation, Chris Skinner, founder of the Chris Skinner Organization, and Jessica Greenfield, founder of GLAHM (Good Life and Healthy Mind) Camp.
