Today is the Last Day to Nominate Someone for the 2008 SCI Hall of Fame!

In response to a large influx of inquiries about the 2008 SCI Hall of Fame nominations process on what was scheduled to be the final day of the nominating process, NSCIA has extended the deadline for submission of nominations until 5 pm Eastern Time, Friday, June 27 as part of the organization's efforts to be as inclusive as possible. Anyone is eligible to nominate candidates online in any one or more of 17 available categories, including three new categories (Military, International and Direct Provider) and NSCIA’s Emerging Leader Award. NSCIA members choose the 2008 Hall of Fame inductees through online voting and inductees will be announced at the 4th annual SCI Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala this fall in New Orleans on September 25, 2008, at the Contemporary Art Center Warehouse. This year’s SCI Hall of Fame is sponsored in part by the Medtronic Foundation, the AT&T Foundation, Motorola and Acorda Therapeutics.

Formed by NSCIA in 2005, the SCI Hall of Fame was created to celebrate and honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to quality of life and advancements toward a better future for all individuals with spinal cord injury.

Categories currently include Assistive Technology, Benefactor, Corporate Executive, Disability Activist, Disability Educator, Entertainment, Entrepreneur, Government Executive, Grassroots Organizer, Legislative, Media, Research in Basic Science, Research in Quality of Life, Sports and three new categories: Military, International and Direct Provider. Detailed descriptions of the categories, a full list of SCI Hall of Fame members and more about the SCI Hall of Fame are available online.

In addition to the SCI Hall of Fame categories, nominations will be accepted for the 2008 NSCIA Emerging Leader Award for exceptional leadership qualities in a local or regional capacity toward the improvement of opportunities or quality of life for persons living with SCI. This award was introduced in 2006 and has been awarded to Cody Unser, founder of the Cody Unser First Step Foundation, and Chris Skinner, founder of the Chris Skinner Organization.
