ShareGameCycle® Merges Upper Body Exercise with Video Games

Three Rivers Holdings, LLC has introduced the GameCycle®, its newest Out-Front® brand product. The GameCycle merges upper body exercise and rehabilitation with the excitement and enjoyment of video games.
A user cranks and steers the GameCycle like a hand-cycle, and those motions control Nintendo GameCube racing video games. The GameCycle provides both exercise and cognitive benefits.
Cognitive benefits include visual-motor integration as the participant matches upper extremity movement to visual feedback from the videogame. Bilateral integration or hemiplegic neglect is addressed because both arms must work in unison to control the game.
The GameCycle encourages exercise and facilitates adherence to rehabilitation and exercise regimens in the clinic or at home.
Better compliance with exercise and rehabilitation routines will lead to better weight maintenance, better functioning in activities of daily living, and improved rehabilitation outcomes.
The GameCycle has an adjustable height, offers a variety of handgrips for varying hand function, and includes a smooth, electronic brake for resistance that enables the user to adjust the difficulty of the workout.
The GameCycle was recently featured in the July/August issue of SCILife, which can be viewed online or as a PDF.
