Charleene Frazier developed and was Program Coordinator for the REGYS/ERGYS Program (Computerized Functional Electrical Stimulation) for SCI persons in Chevy Chase, Maryland from 1989 - 1999. An important aspect of this program was her ability to achieve insurance reimbursement for both the outpatient therapy services and purchase of the ergometer for individual patients. She is a consultant for the appeals process for reimbursement for ergometers. She continues to serve as the Clinical Training Coordinator for clinicians starting new ergometry programs and is an independent consultant for ERGYS patients in the Greater Washington, DC - Baltimore Area. Further, she is the author of the 1999 Best Article of the year, “The Development of a Nurse-Directed Computerized Functional Electrical Stimulation Program”, published in SCI Nursing, June 1999 and Fall 2003. Ms. Frazier received her nursing education, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, from the UCLA School of Nursing, Los Angeles, California. Prior to her extensive work in spinal cord injury, she taught for 18 years in nursing education, the majority of which was as a member of the faculty of Georgetown University School of Nursing, Washington, DC. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honorary. She is the grandmother of 17 delightful grandchildren (including two sets of triplets), active in her church and serves on the President's Advisory Council for Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, DC. |
