The Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative mission is to increase accessibility and utilization of assistive technology. One way the DATI accomplishes this is through the local Assistive Technology Resource Centers (ATRC) equipment demonstration/loan program. This program is only available to Delaware residents. At each ATRC, an experienced AT provider is available to discuss personal needs and options. With the demo/loan program, Delawareans can see demonstrations or various AT options or “test-drive” hundreds of AT devices.
There is an ATRC in each of Delaware’s three counties: New Castle, Kent and Sussex.
Short Term Equipment Loan
Whether your current equipment is being repaired, you are experiencing a temporary disability, or you would like to try a piece of equipment before making a purchase, the DATI’s short-term equipment loan program is here to help.
Guidelines for Borrowing Equipment
The borrower must be a resident of Delaware.
The standard loan period is two weeks, defined as the day borrowed to the same day of the week two weeks later. Loans may be extended providing there are no names on the waiting list and/or that an extension will not interfere with an existing reservation. The maximum loan period is four weeks.
A maximum of four devices may be borrowed at one time. However, combinations of devices may be treated as a single device if the components are interdependent.
Borrowed equipment must remain in Delaware during the period of the loan.
The loaned equipment remains the property of the DATI and must be returned promptly to the ATRC in the condition in which it was borrowed.
The borrowed equipment must be used in a careful and responsible manner. It must be protected from damage or loss while in the borrower’s custody. The borrower shall use the loaned property only in accordance with the directions of the manufacturer. In the event of any failure, damage, or loss, the borrower will notify DATI/ATRC immediately, take all steps to avoid further loss, and comply with ATRC instructions regarding repair or disposition. If the ATRC staff determines that damage is incurred as the result of negligent use, the borrower may be responsible for the cost of the replacement.
he borrowed equipment may not be loaned, sold, or otherwise disposed of, or used by other persons than the borrower/intended user(s), without the express written approval of the DATI/ATRC.
The borrower will notify the ATRC of any change of address.
Failure to comply with the terms of this agreement may prevent future eligibility for assistive technology equipment loans and other services of DATI, including the BOLD program. The DATI shall not be liable for any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, expenses (including but not limited to settlements, judgments, court costs and reasonable attorney’s fees) fines and penalties, arising out of the use of a device borrowed and on loan under the AT Program.
